Life is hard. There is no doubt about that. And some days you wonder if you’ll ever make it through. But one second at a time, one minute at a time, one hour at a time – you do!!
With all the stress in this life – friends, family, relationships, work, finances – how do you even cope with all the nonsense? Do you reach for a bottle? Maybe you go to the gym? Or find comfort in so-called comfort food that only depresses you even more.
Three years ago I went through something in my life that only a few people know about. Other than that I will go to my grave with it. But it rocked my world to the point where I couldn’t even get out of bed. I questioned everything about life. I questioned my faith. I questioned my existence. To be honest, I cannot even really say for certain what got me through that very dark time in my life. But I rose above – somehow.
Now, my life is very different because I know I can choose what to focus on. Through personal development I have learned that I have a choice – we all have a choice – in how we deal with stress and life in general.
Here is my advice to you…when you start to feel anxious, nervous, or stressed you can either let that consume you or you can instantly change your frame of mind. Instead of focusing on what’s going wrong, focus on what’s right and say it out loud. Find just one thing you are grateful for in that moment of chaos, focus on it and truly FEEL how grateful you are for it.
When you do that you are now in control. You are choosing to overcome the nonsense that is surrounding you.
Now, I will tell you this is hard to do – really hard, especially when you’ve never done this before. And if you think it’s a bit “crazy”, that’s fine. Again, your choice. But if you never change what you do or how you react to things you will always get the same result.
Just give it a try to see what happens. Remember, you are a work in progress, and so am I. Believe me when I tell you my kids really challenge me when they refuse to listen and I do, sometimes, get caught in the stressed out mentality. But, I’ve learned how to recognize it and make adjustments.
And you can do the same! Remember, where the mind goes, energy flows. Have a grateful and abundant mindset and you will get more of that. Have a mindset of scarcity and overwhelm and you will get more of that.
For me, I choose gratitude.
